Melons from Uzbekistan have been making their way into the German trade for several years. Three years ago, the Duisburg-based company disFruta also started marketing this product. "We purchase 20 tons of melons daily, which we receive directly from Uzbekistan. The qualities are very good this year. The price is around 1.10 to 1.20 EUR/kg, which is due to the higher costs for the forwarding companies, which alone means that 0.50 EUR/kg has to be charged," Managing Director Ersan Yildizak tells us.

Among the buyers of this product are nationwide wholesalers. "In my opinion, these are currently the best melons on the market, which is partly due to the fact that they are sun-ripened. The demand is very good. The season started about two weeks ago and will continue for about a month and a half." In addition, disFruta also offers black watermelons from Turkey, of which he received the first shipment at the end of week 34. "We have satisfactory quantities with good qualities available."

At the beginning of the year, the company, formerly located in Wuppertal, moved to Duisburg. "The enclosed area in the new facility is about 4,500 square meters. In this warehouse we can turn over almost double what we achieved before. We additionally work together with the large forwarding company Kempen Transport in Venlo to market our goods."
