Two million strawberries to be delivered to Wimbledon

Some two million strawberries are to be delivered to the All England Club during Wimbledon, and this year's crop have had ideal growing conditions. The lack of spring frosts and the current dry weather is the perfect combination for delivering a plentiful supply over the coming weeks.

RHS' chief horticulturist Guy Barter: "Our long spring with few frosts, the recent warm weather with bursts of thundery rain will deliver bumper strawberry crops."

At B&Q, bosses say the grow your own trend, which started during lockdown, has continued, with 'exceptional' interest in cultivating strawberries this year. Every year, about 38 tons of the fruit, or about two million berries, are delivered to Wimbledon during the tournament.
