Heavy rains in the country have practically destroyed the harvest of crops

The price of fruits and vegetables in Bulgaria is rapidly increasing

In the last few days and weeks, prices for fruits and vegetables in Bulgaria have gone up quickly. Heavy rains in the country have practically destroyed the harvest of crops. It has become clear that vegetable growers and farmers cultivating fruits in the open air have suffered the most, and these are among the most demanded goods in the Bulgarian market.

In some areas, 80% of the crops have been destroyed. Farmers in Northern Bulgaria and partially in the South have been affected the most. According to agricultural specialists from the State Vegetable Cultivation Institute, excessive precipitation has created conditions for the appearance of diseases on plantations, mainly phytophthora, which destroys the fruits.

Currently, the Bulgarian market does not feel the decline in harvest, as imports compensate for the smaller volume of domestic production. Apricots, peaches, nectarines, and cucumbers are becoming cheaper in markets and stores across the country. However, prices for strawberries and cherries are increasing. The reason is the depletion of domestic producers' supply, and the remaining batches of these fruits are becoming more expensive.
