Downward trend expected next week for price of Turkish cherries

The cherry season in Turkey is in full swing, but demand isn’t equal in every region, says Yahya Erdogan, sales and marketing director of Turkish fresh produce grower and exporter Ana Fruit: “Since the beginning of the season, the demand was strong from European countries for Turkish cherries, however the demand is somewhat lower than expected in the Far East region compared to previous years.”

According to Erdogan the prices for cherries have been stable over the past three to four weeks. However, prices could be changing from next week on, he states. “We’ve not encountered many surprises in terms of pricing for the cherries this season. The situation has been quite stable so far, and we’re expecting a slight downward trend next week, which will be positive for any importer making new inquiries for Turkish cherries.”

The quantities of the cherries in Turkey is quite high this season, Erdogan explains. “When looking at volumes this year, there’s definitely an increase in quantity this season. This week and onwards we’re hoping to see a better impact of the sufficient volumes as the weather forecast is in our favor.”

The Turkish cherry season’s end is already in sight, but Erdogan expects the season to last for another five to six weeks: “Current quality of cherries are very good thanks to great weather conditions during the harvest. We are expecting the season to last until the first week of August or maybe the second. We expect to be able to finish the cherry season nicely and welcome the new apple season after that,” he concludes.
