The Latvian Association of Agricultural Cooperatives summed up the information on the situation in crop production in connection with the impact of spring frosts on fruit and berry orchards. It has been found that the damage may amount to about €10 million.
Association representatives note that support from the state for the industry at this time is crucial, as the lost income will have a prolonged negative impact on the development of the sector.
Chairman of the Board of BIO Berries Latvia, Gundars Karklins, after a meeting of the association, acknowledged that if preparations for next year's harvest do not succeed, both local consumers and foreign clients will suffer losses.
Currently, there are eight fruit and vegetable cooperatives in Latvia, bringing together nearly 150 producers of fruits, berries, and vegetables.
