Brazil: IDR research forwards launch of new apple cultivars

The Experimental unit of the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Rural – IDR in Palmas is following the various research phases for the launch of new apple cultivars to producers. After 10 years of research, the first popular sensory survey of the flavor of 16 new varieties was carried out.

According to the Research Coordinator Wilson Schveiczrski, it is one more step for new cultivars to be launched in the market for commercial production soon. IDR Researcher Clandio Medeiros da Silva explained that new sensory research should be carried out, with the completion of field evaluations. According to him, the research refers to early varieties that have a harvest cycle in early December and can be planted in different regions of Brazil.
