FruitFutur A.I.E. presented the new FuturFuji/HOT84A1 apple variety at the Fruit Attraction 2022 fair in Madrid. FuturFuji is a variety with excellent behavior in warm climates that is fully adapted to the growing conditions of the country. "The organoleptic quality of FuturFuji is outstanding: the fruit is crisp, juicy, very sweet, and have low acidity. In addition, FuturFuji has a fast entry into production, excellent storage capacity. Thus, FuturFuji has high commercial potential. It is a very interesting option for agricultural producers and attractive for consumers."
"FruitFutur A.I.E. is an association of the main fruit-producing companies of Catalonia (Nufri, Actel, Fruits de Ponent, and IGP Poma de Girona), together with the Institute of Agricultural Food Research and Technology (IRTA) as a technological partner. Its main objective is to develop and promote new fruit varieties that have very good adaptation to agroclimatic conditions, easy handling, and that yield high-quality fruit."
"FuturFuji is the first registered variety to emerge from the Hot Climate Programme (HCP), a program developed in 2002 by IRTA, New Zealand's Plant and Food Research, and FruitFutur. This program aims to obtain new varieties of pome fruit adapted to hot weather conditions. Currently, the program has a wide range of selections of apple and pear in the pre-commercial phase covering different harvest times and fruit types."
"The first hectares of FuturFuji were planted in 2019. They started gaining strong momentum in 2022, with the aim of reaching more than 250 hectares planted within five years."
FruitFutur is the exclusive licensee for the production of FuturFuji in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), under a regulated production model. Globally, the variety is licensed by VentureFruit Global Limited. Interested companies can visit FuturFuji's commercial plantations in Lleida and Girona. They can even try this tree variety and other selections of the program on their own farms through an experimentation contract.
