Operators refuse to harvest the Monalisa potato crop due to a virus that does not affect its consumption

The agricultural organization UPA CyL has denounced an issue that certain potato producers of the autonomous community, mainly of the Monalisa variety, are currently facing. According to UPA, operators are not harvesting the Monalisa potatoes because the crops are affected by a virus that has no incidence on its consumption but produces a small spot on the tuber's skin.

UPA demanded operators not to cause any more delays and to harvest all the Monalisa potatoes that are in the fields, as they are currently suitable for processing.

The organization also demanded an urgent meeting with the inter-branch organization to find an immediate solution to the affected producers, as this situation can ruin them financially.

This disease that affects the Monalisa potato is relatively widespread in Europe. It does not have any negative impact on consumption, but the extreme conditions that operators in this region demand for the final product make it unusable.
