In this year of under-production at the European level, the risk of confusion about origins is great and unfortunately, “francization” of imported products is more likely to happen.
Given the work carried out for over 10 years by French producers to promote the quality of their fruit, the PDO Peaches and Apricots of France has decided to act on several levels:
- For this season, the long-established partnership with the DGCCRF services is reinforced, with a regular exchange of information between representatives of the sector and administrative services. They concern especially the monitoring of the product offer by category and caliber, in order to detect dubious situations worthy of an investigation by the fraud department.
Additionally, Peaches and Apricots of France is committed to a program of analysis on peaches from different production regions using two analytical techniques: isotopic analysis and NMR Spectroscopy (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance). This program, conducted with other PDOs and the support of GEFEL, is entrusted to the Eurofins lab. IRTA, the Institute of Spanish Catalonia, is a partner of this project. The process should help characterize the origin of a product through a simple analysis.
Eventually, and if the investigations conducted on our products lead to criminal accusations, Peaches and Apricots of France would take legal action.
