The Ferrol-based company Covas Vegetal, founded six years ago by Ángela del Río and Manuel Cereijo, is marketing its yellow peppers, green and purple lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, Galician cabbage, kale and tomatoes all over Spain.
When the firm started, it only sold in the area of Ferrol, Narón, Neda and Fene, but after advertising the business on social media and creating a virtual store on the website www.verduragallega.es, its market expanded and it now ships vegetables (all from its own fields) and fruits (which it buys from other producers based on customer demand) to any point in Spain.
"We ship boxes to Madrid, Murcia, Cadiz and Barcelona. They are mostly ordered by people who are originally from Galicia, but moved away, and who want fresh Galician products. They say that the products from the places where they live now don't taste the same. There are also people who come in summer, get to know our product and then continue buying it from us," says Angela.
"We have the production capacity to meet the orders of individuals, but we also sell to greengrocers, and in those cases, we do fall short sometimes," admits this young entrepreneur. They offer weekly lots of vegetables and fruits for 14.90 Euro (5.5 kilos) or 20.90 Euro (10 kilos), but most consumers prefer to pick their own products from the virtual shelves.
