China issues catalogue on 'three new foods'

On May 10, 2023, the People’s Republic of China National Health Commission (NHC) released a catalogue of new food ingredients, new varieties for food additives and new food related products (referred to as “three new foods”). These were announced during 2009 to 2021, with the applicable corresponding food safety standards. This report provides an unofficial translation of the catalogue and corresponding requirements.

China granted an 18 months transition period for the new food ingredients to comply with the food safety standards and requirements listed in the catalogue.

This report provides an unofficial translation of the catalogue and corresponding standards.
