Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has enhanced its cold-chain logistics in South Africa through a new weekly direct service from the Port of Port Elizabeth to the Mediterranean and Montreal. This Eastern Cape Citrus Service will utilize MSC's network, including a call at Las Palmas, before reaching Mediterranean ports and Montreal, as outlined by Zane Godwin, MSC's commercial executive in Durban.
The service aims to meet the demands of time-sensitive cargo, employing eight vessels for this route, starting with the MSC Nederland III, scheduled to arrive in Port Elizabeth on May 16. The service's rotation includes stops at Las Palmas, Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Le Havre, with transit times of 13 days to the Canary Islands and 22 to 25 days to the European ports.
This initiative follows the recent inauguration of a cold store warehouse in Cato Manor, near the Port of Durban, capable of handling 10,000 pallets of packed citrus.
