São Paulo avocado production has seen a notable increase in 2023

In São Paulo, Brazil, avocado production has seen a notable increase, with the state producing 192 thousand tons in 2023, an 8.54% rise from the previous year, as reported by the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IEA – Apta), associated with the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (SAA).

This growth positions São Paulo ahead of other significant producers in the South and Southeast, including Minas Gerais, Paraná, and Espírito Santo. The Campinas region stands as the primary avocado production area, with Jardinópolis being the top producer within the state. Despite challenges, such as potential drought impacts on harvests, efforts in irrigation and agricultural management continue, with a notable partnership between the Department of Agriculture, the University of Nebraska, and Lindsay company to develop a new Irrigation Plan. São Paulo's agricultural landscape features a variety of avocado cultivars, with a cultivation area reported at 7,753 hectares across 5,327 agricultural establishments, generating a gross value of production estimated at R$517 million.
