Farmers in Vietnam are experiencing unprecedented high prices for Monthong durian, with grade A reaching VND218,000-230,000 per kilogram. The prices for grade B and C are VND195,000-200,000 and VND100,000-140,000 respectively. Meanwhile, Ri 6 durian prices are stable at VND160,000 for grade A and VND70,000 for grade C.
A farmer from Ben Tre Province reported selling a ton of grade C Monthong durian at VND110,000 per kilogram and mentioned having two more tons to harvest. A trader in Tien Giang Province highlighted a decrease in procurement capacity from 30-40 tons last year to 5-15 tons this year.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development attributes the scarcity to saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta, affecting durian cultivation. Dang Phuc Nguyen, from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, anticipates a recovery in supply by May, leading to price stabilization.
