An official from the Battambang Provincial Department of Agriculture reported that Battambang farmers are exporting fresh mangoes to Thailand at a rate of 150-200 tons daily through the Kamrieng International Border Checkpoint.
This checkpoint serves as the main export gateway, where a systematic approach ensures compliance with the stringent quality standards of Thai buyers. These standards encompass good hygiene practices, no mango resin stains, and the use of specialized packaging. Despite these measures, not all mangoes meet the criteria, resulting in rejections and potential financial losses for farmers due to inadequate market knowledge.
Battambang province boasts 16,079 hectares of mango plantations, with 14,340 hectares harvested this season, yielding an average of 21 tons and 700 kilograms per hectare. Additionally, the construction of a significant mango processing facility by a Chinese company in Rattanak Mondul district is underway, poised to enhance the mango industry's future in Battambang by ensuring a consistent market for local farmers.
