Soursop production in Goiás should reach 30 tons this year

In Goiás, a region not traditionally known for soursop cultivation, a significant increase in production of this exotic fruit is anticipated. The region is expected to produce 30 tons of soursop this year, marking a 20% increase. This growth is attributed to the implementation of management practices advised by the Technical and Management Assistance (ATeG) of Senar Goiás. Soursop, a fruit hailed for its health benefits, is rich in vitamins and minerals, and low in calories.

Renato Oscarino Prado, a local farmer, has ventured into soursop cultivation, overcoming challenges such as pest attacks, particularly from borers. With the assistance of Senar, strategies have been developed to protect the crop while ensuring the survival of essential pollinators. The farm, now boasting 1,300 trees, has adapted its practices to enhance productivity and fruit quality. Lucas Marquezan, an ATeg Fruit Growing technician, highlights the importance of innovative approaches, such as adapting equipment for cultural practices, to achieve better yields. The harvesting period, extending from January to July, presents its own set of challenges, necessitating precise timing to avoid loss of produce.
