Mangoes account for 60% of Bahia State fruit exports

In 2023, Bahia, Brazil, saw its fruit exports surge to $253.6 million, with mangoes leading at $155.5 million, representing 61% of the total. Grapes followed with $54.2 million or 23.4%, then lemons and limes at $36.5 million (14.4%), and papayas at $5.8 million (2.3%). The state's climatic conditions have been favorable for tropical fruits, particularly mangoes and grapes. The Chapada Diamantina region, known for its higher altitude, has become a prime area for cultivating temperate climate fruits, including plums, strawberries, persimmons, and grapes for fine wine.

European Union countries were the largest importers of Bahia's fruits, purchasing $151.7 million worth of goods, which is 59.81% of the total exports. The United States and the United Kingdom followed, with $64 million (23%) and $24.2 million (9.56%) respectively. This export growth highlights Bahia's increasing importance in the global fruit market.
