Hapus mangoes from Maharashtra enter Vashi APMC market

In the Vashi APMC market, a significant arrival of Hapus mangoes was recorded with 5,000 boxes ready for trade. The majority, 60%, originated from Sindhudurg, while the remaining 40% were distributed between Ratnagiri and Raigad.

Current market rates for these boxes range between Rs 2,000 to 5,000. Last year's October heat, followed by unseasonal December rains, adversely affected the crop, leading to fruit rot and outbreaks of thrips and fungal diseases. Despite these challenges, orchardists managed to salvage a portion of the crop through pesticide application, with a minor quantity reaching markets by January.

Presently, mangoes, especially from Sindhudurg, are being harvested and dispatched to markets in Mumbai and Pune. Additionally, Karnataka's Hapus, along with other varieties such as Badami, Lalbaug, and Totapuri, are also available, with prices per kg varying from Rs 60 to 175, depending on the variety.
