Progene Seed

Maximizing yields with high-quality plum tomatoes

"When constantly in touch with growers from Sicily, it becomes essential to meet the needs of the local territory. What better solution than a local breeding station?" explains Cassibba, tomato breeder at Progene Seed.

Vincenzo Cassibba

Progene Seed is a new research company working in the vegetable seed sector that is standing out in the solanaceae market. One of the leading products for this young and dynamic company is the new red plum tomato Romulus F1.

"The presence in highly specialized areas helps us in selecting valid products that adapt to the swift climate change underway. Having the possibility of studying the various weather events that affect a specific area such as temperature changes, high humidity percentages and strong warm winds helps us bring to the market varieties that adapt to the territory." Romulus F1

"Romulus F1 is a red plum tomato characterized by high yields and elegant bunches. One of its points of strength is the high resistance to cracking as well as the very low susceptibility to drops for summer transplants. The short internodes make cultivation in cold and not particularly tall greenhouses (i.e. the classic Sicilian greenhouses) easier and, of course, simplify crop management. Romulus F1 is recommended for spring/summer cycles but achieves excellent results also in case of August and September transplants thanks to its resistance to cracking. This characteristic also makes it possible to maximize yields and simplify harvesting, as less attention is needed for fruits unsuitable for commercialization as they are rare."

Romulus F1. Resistances: HR: ToMV; Fol 1-2; TSWV; IR: TYLCV, Mi, Ma, Mj.

"The thick rachis, bright red fruits and tight bunches make Romulus F1 appealing for buyers and final consumers alike. These characteristics make this variety an excellent choice for those looking to make transplants of plum tomatoes in the spring/summer period."
