Milan's agri-food market on track to become Europe's most modern food hub

The Foody 2025 initiative, unveiled by Sogemi and the Milan Municipality, is advancing as planned towards transforming the new Agri-Food Market into Europe's premier food city hub. February 2023 marked the operational debut of the first two food logistics platforms, hosting 15 concessionaires and employing over 380 individuals. The next milestone is Pavilion 1 Fruit and Vegetables, set to launch on 22 April 2024, featuring a 47,000 square meter facility and 160 loading docks, ready to accommodate 46 specialized fruit and vegetable firms across 102 sales points.

This Pavilion embodies the pinnacle of modern design, with a focus on technological and environmental excellence. It includes a state-of-the-art logistics system, an 11.3 MWt renewable energy plant, and superior safety protocols for operational and food processing standards.

"We are nearing the realization of a modern food district that can stand out and compete on a European scale," stated Sogemi president Cesare Ferrero. He emphasized the project's ambition to set a benchmark in terms of scale, operational efficiency, and environmental footprint. The comprehensive Foody 2025 scheme, with a budget of 300 million euros, envisions further expansions including additional pavilions, facility renovations, and the creation of a fish logistics platform, aiming for completion by 2025.
