After the Zero Pesticide Residue label created in 2018, Collectif Nouveaux Champs is now launching the Biodiversity label. This new initiative was presented this week by Gilles Bertrandias, president of Collectif Nouveaux Champs, during a press conference.
The label will be launched in March. Collectif Nouveaux Champs represents 400 producers, 28 plant sectors and 5,500 ha.
In 2024, Collectif Nouveaux Champs wants to continue its efforts to "further develop the Zero Pesticide Residue label." It also wants to materialize "its commitments in favor of biodiversity." According to Gilles Bertrandias, this is an "initiative that testifies to the commitment of the producers on our farms to restore and preserve biodiversity." It is with the NGO NoƩ that Collectif Nouveaux Champs built this new label, which includes 14 indicators.
Four pillars
The Biodiversity label is based on 4 pillars that are "in line with the National Biodiversity Strategy." Pillar 1: "restoring biodiversity wherever possible in our production activities. Pillar 2: reducing the pressures on biodiversity. Pillar 3: mobilizing and raising awareness among stakeholders to support actions in favor of restoration, and Pillar 4: contributing to communication aimed at consumers on the subject of biodiversity."
"Agriculture of proof"
"The framework of our collective has always been based around the agriculture of proof," explains Gilles Bertrandias. The approach consists of a set of specifications and references "which will enable us to assess the practices of a farm wishing to apply for the Biodiversity label." An external control of the reference system is carried out by an independent organization.
