Chinese-built cargo center boosts Uganda's exports

A cargo center constructed by China at Uganda's Entebbe International Airport is significantly enhancing the country's cargo export capacity, according to the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).

The spokesperson for UCAA, Vianney Luggya, highlighted the increased capabilities of the new facility, which can handle up to 100,000 tonnes of cargo annually, a substantial improvement over the previous capacity of less than 50,000 tonnes. Since its inauguration in 2021, the center has seen a notable uptick in export cargo, with 39,000 tonnes processed in its first year and a slight increase the following year. Luggya emphasized the growth in export volumes, particularly in January, where 3,604 tonnes were recorded, surpassing December's figures. Uganda's export portfolio, dominated by fresh produce such as flowers, fish, vegetables, and fruits, primarily targets the European market.
