There is absolutely no domestically-grown ginger available in South Africa, but with the new season fast approaching, Sunreaped, a subtropical fruit producer in Kiepersol and southern Mozambique, is thrilled to announce that their ginger crop is flourishing.
“The ginger in the fields is exhibiting robust growth and exceptional quality, and it’s setting the stage for a bountiful harvest,” remarks Sunreaped CEO Joachim Prinsloo.
He is expecting an outstanding ginger yield towards the middle or end of March, which will be good news to retail buyers scrabbling for ginger last year as domestic supply plummeted.

He credits favourable growing conditions, coupled with their farming techniques and meticulous attention to detail.

Apart from the domestic ginger market, every now and then Verwey also receives an enquiry from international buyers.
They are well aware of the advantage conferred by South Africa’s weak exchange rate, and while Sunreaped has not exported ginger before, they’re Global GAP-certified and with growing volumes, well-situated to take this next step.
