Peruvian lemon exports saw a 63% increase in the first three weeks of the year

Lemon is one of the fruits that has seen the most growth in Peruvian exports so far this year, with a total of 5,432 tons shipped to the international market.

This citrus fruit has had a positive start in 2024, with an encouraging 63% increase in the first three weeks, compared to the same period last year. This growth is due to the higher demand from international markets, which appreciate the taste, aroma and quality of Peruvian lemons.

The majority of lemon exports have departed from the Port of Paita (84%) and, to a lesser extent, from the Port of Callao (16%).

In 2023, lemon exports reached a total of 39 destinations, with four new markets compared to 2022. So far in 2024, they have reached 17 countries, with the most notable being the United States (45%), Spain (15%), China (14%), Dominican Republic (9%) and Germany (6%).

The most exported lemon variety is the Tahiti, with a 28% share, followed in smaller proportions by the Sutil (2%) and Eureka (1%).

The biggest exporters were Multifoods S.A.C., with a 16% share; Agromar Industrial S.A., with 13%; Limones Piuranos S.A.C., with 11%; Ecosac Agrícola S.A.C., with 9%; and Procesadora Laran S.A.C., with 8%.
