According to FEPEX, Spanish fruit and vegetable production has remained stable over the past decade going from 22.9 million tons in 2013 to 23 million tons 10 years later, in 2022; i.e. practically the same figure.
According to data processed by FEPEX from the 2022 Yearbook of Statistics and Annual Surfaces and Productions, the last year for which complete statistics are available, the country's fruit and vegetable production is led by vegetable production with 14.2 million tons. It is followed by citrus fruits, with 5.8 million tons, and sweet fruit, with 2 million tons. Next are bananas with 348,874 tons, table grapes with 292,394 tons, and tropical grapes with 216,688 tons.
Vegetable production has grown by 7.5% in the last ten years, from 13.2 million tons in 2013 to 14.2 million tons in 2022. Next to vegetables, the product groups that have grown the most have been table grapes and tropical fruits, with a 26% and 23% increase in the last ten years, respectively. In contrast, the production of citrus fruits decreased by 8% and that of sweet fruit by 23%.
The fruit and vegetable area has also remained stable in the last decade, going from 898,465 hectares to 904,959 hectares in 2022, as reported in previous FEPEX reports.
Between 2013 and 2022, potato production decreased by 14% going from 2.2 million tons to 1.9 million tons and the area decreased by 11%.
