Dominican Republic establishes inter-ministerial body to bolster plantain production

President Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic announced the creation of the Dominican Plantain Commission (CODOPLATANO) via Decree No. 62-24. This inter-ministerial body aims to support and advise on the cultivation, production, marketing, processing, and export of plantains.

CODOPLATANO brings together ministers from various departments, administrators from the Agricultural Bank and Reserve Bank, directors from INDRHI, INESPRE, CEI-RD, and IAD, the president of ADOPLATANO, and representatives from banana producer cooperatives. This commission is a testament to the government's commitment to plantain production, with the goal of creating jobs, developing public policies, and providing incentives for producers.

The establishment of CODOPLATANO also responds to the increase in plantain consumption and positions the Dominican Republic as a reliable source for plantain marketing. This strategic move is expected to enhance the country's competitiveness in the international market.

This decision by President Abinader is a significant step forward for the Dominican agricultural sector, providing producers with a platform to express their concerns and enabling the government to implement more efficient, reality-based public policies.
