GASA Odense Frugt Gront:

Danish fresh produce exporter looks to increase sales to European market

The Danish fresh produce exporter GASA Odense Frugt Gront is looking to increase their sales to the rest of the European market. Jens Nannerup, CEO of the agricultural cooperative, says they sold approximately €150 million worth of fruit and vegetables last year. “Our goal this year is to further develop our grower’s business in European markets, especially because it is getting more and more important to establish long-term committed cooperation to ensure supply.”

GASA Odense Frugt Gront is a Danish grower organization representing the majority of Danish fresh produce, and their model is to ship the products directly from the growers to the clients. “We sell Danish fruit and vegetables to the domestic market in Denmark and the rest of Europe. GASA Odense Frugt Gront is a multi-culture producer organization. The export snack carrots are the main product, but also standard carrots, root vegetables, onions, strawberries, herbs, and leeks are being sold across Europe,” says Nannerup.

So far, Denmark has had a very wet autumn and winter, like the rest of Europe. This is a challenge for the growers who depend on continuous harvesting throughout the year, and it is increasing production costs. However, until now, the carrot growers have maintained fields to secure a very stable production with high-quality products. The outlook for the season is positive, but like in other countries, in Denmark, yields are below average this season, and this is decreasing supply slightly.

“In Denmark, the climatic conditions for vegetable production are relatively improved, as we are less affected by climate change compared to other places in Europe. Hence, we expect our business possibilities will improve in the years to come. From our experience of last year’s turbulent markets, we have learned many things, such as the importance of robust supply chains. Therefore, an objective for us during this upcoming Fruit Logistica exhibition is to initiate discussions for the planning of the coming seasons with the purpose of securing product availability. We are looking forward to meeting with all our good customers and friends in the market,” concludes Nannerup.
