Chinese bananas arrive in Russia via Zabaikalsk border crossing for first time in 5 years

Fresh banana imports into Russia via checkpoints supervised by Rosselkhoznadzor in the Zabaikalsky Krai region have resumed after a hiatus of five years, starting in 2019.

On January 29, 2024, the Zabaikalsk International automobile border crossing witnessed the arrival of two import consignments of fresh bananas from China, totalling over 40 tons. Before the restrictions were imposed, only 350 kg of fruits were imported through the checkpoint throughout the entire year of 2018.

Authorities from the Rosselkhoznadzor in Zabaikalsky Krai have conducted primary quarantine phytosanitary control for all the incoming produce. Following the completion of the quarantine phytosanitary control procedures, the entry of these two consignments of sub-quarantine produce into Russian territory has been permitted. The banana shipments are now en route to temporary storage facilities in the Krasnoyarsk Krai region.
