Pakistan and Korea join forces to enhance potato seed production with aeroponics technology

PR&P, PARC, Pakistan, and the Republic of Korea are collaborating on Technical Cooperation Projects, with a primary focus on seed potato production using aeroponics technology. This partnership between KOPIA and PARC is set to revolutionize agricultural productivity with the Aeroponic Potato Seed Production System.

The initiative promises to create numerous job opportunities and foster a new era of agricultural innovation. A ceremony celebrating the potato seed harvest took place at the National Agricultural Research Center and was attended by Dr. Kausar Abdulla Malik, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Park Ki Jun, the Korean Ambassador, and Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali, Chairman of PARC.

Dr. Malik highlighted the significant growth in potato cultivation in Pakistan over the past two decades. He emphasized that the adoption of Aeroponic technology will increase potato production and ensure virus-free seeds, thus significantly improving the agricultural sector.

Currently, only 2% of Pakistan's potato seed requirement is fulfilled locally, with the remaining 98% imported. With the introduction of this new technology, Pakistan is expected to achieve self-sufficiency in potato seed production.

Park Ki Jun, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, underscored the collaboration between Pakistan and Korea, emphasizing the swift progress of the joint potato seed production project. He also reaffirmed his dedication to bolstering bilateral cooperation by extending training opportunities in agriculture to Pakistani professionals.
