Port NOLA and PhilaPort to receive substantial federal grants

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) has received an additional $226,220,195 federal grant for the construction of the Louisiana International Terminal (LIT). This project is expected to create numerous jobs and establish Louisiana as a leading international Gulf gateway.

The U.S. Department of Transportation intends to award this funding via its Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) competitive Grant Program. This program aims to rebuild U.S. infrastructure by funding multimodal freight and highway projects.

Port NOLA has also been awarded $73.77 million through the Department of Transportation's MEGA Grant program. This brings the total federal grant to $300 million for the first phase of the $1.8 billion container terminal. The recent federal grants are supplemented by significant contributions from private industry partners, the State of Louisiana, and Port NOLA itself.

According to portnola.com, the new terminal, situated in Violet, Louisiana, will utilize Port NOLA’s extensive connectivity to interstate systems, railroads, waterways, and hubs. The terminal is expected to significantly boost Louisiana’s import and export capacity.

PhilaPort to receive $13 mln in new infrastructure funding
Today, U.S. Senators Bob Casey and John Fetterman and U.S. Representatives Brendan Boyle and Mary Gay Scanlon announced the Port of Philadelphia (PhilaPort) is receiving $13,017,024 in new infrastructure funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funding will help enhance port operations, improve the flow of freight through the port, and prolong the lifespan of port equipment by building a new bridge to connect two critical terminals. The award is from the INFRA (Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highway Projects) program, which is bolstered by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

“This new funding for PhilaPort’s Packer Avenue Marine Terminal Connector Bridge Project will be critical to meeting our regional freight transportation needs while promoting economic growth, creating jobs, and keeping costs down for consumers and businesses,” said Rep. Scanlon.
