Tien Giang's fruit orchards anticipate a yield of over 83,000 tons

The Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Tien Giang Province has indicated an expected fruit production increase for this year's Tet market, with a projected increase of about 3,000 tons compared to the previous year. Currently, Tien Giang's fruit orchards cover an area of 7,000 hectares and are anticipated to yield over 83,000 tons of fruit. The yield breakdown includes 10,000 tons of mangoes, 17,700 tons of green-skinned pomelos, 730 tons of star apples, and nearly 30,000 tons of dragon fruits. Other fruits, such as soursop, papaya, java apple, and pineapple, are also being cultivated for the Tet celebrations.

However, Tien Giang's agriculture sector has identified increased challenges for farmers due to unfavorable weather conditions. As the fruit trees are currently in the harvesting preparation stage, Director Vo Van Men advises farmers to concentrate on watering and monitoring pest and disease conditions. He strongly discourages the application of fertilizers and growth stimulants due to the limited time left for harvesting and to prevent rapid fruit spoilage.
