Heavy rainfall causes havoc in Kenya

Intense rainfall in Kenya, particularly in Bomet County, Coast, North Eastern, Central and parts of Western regions, has resulted in widespread destruction. The enhanced rainfall has displaced hundreds from their homes, causing severe damage to infrastructure such as roads and bridges.

In Bomet, two victims were found buried in a mudslide near a construction site. The makeshift dwelling they occupied was destroyed in the incident. Traffic disruption has also been reported due to a washed-away bridge in Chepalungu Constituency.

In Nairobi, heavy rains made major roads impassable, causing traffic congestion. In the Mukuru-Kayaba slum, the Ngong River burst its banks, forcing residents to evacuate their flooded homes. Motorists were also unable to access Enterprise Road, which links Mombasa Road via the Kayaba/Hazina Bridge.

Heavy rainfall was also reported in Tharaka-Nithi County, bordering Mount Kenya forest. In Kajiado, flash floods displaced dozens of families living near a seasonal river.
