During the first week of the new year, the Southern Directorate of the Rosselkhoznadzor monitored the import of 67,800 tons of regulated products brought into the territory of the Russian Federation through the Novorossiysk sea checkpoint.

The primary portion of the imported goods consisted of fresh fruits, totalling 58,800 tons (87%). Among them were:

  • mandarins – 27,800 tons;
  • oranges – 19,400 tons;
  • lemons – 6,700 tons;
  • pomegranates – 1,600 tons;
  • avocados – 1,200 tons;
  • grapefruits – 1000 tons;
  • grapes – 575 tons;
  • pears – 73 tons;
  • other fruits – 367 tons.

The volume of imported fresh vegetables amounted to 3,900 tons (6%), including:

  • peppers – 1,600 tons;
  • tomatoes – 789 tons;
  • zucchinis – 582 tons;
  • radishes – 306 tons;
  • other vegetables – 632 tons.

Laboratories affiliated with the Rosselkhoznadzor Directorate conducted examinations on the quarantined products. The results revealed the presence of two types of quarantine pests: in 2 cases – the Western flower thrips (California thrips), and in 38 cases – the Mediterranean fruit fly.

To prevent the potential threat of introducing and spreading quarantine pests within the Russian territory, the exporter country had to take back 262 tons of contaminated products. Additionally, the authorities carried out the decontamination of 506 tons of infected goods.
