This year, Henk Rozema started his own fruit and vegetable trading company, Fruta Rosa International, in the Netherlands. The name is a tribute to the parent company, Fruithandel Rozema. "I learned the trade from my father, of whom I'll always be proud," says Henk.
"For now, I've set up a small office at home. I try to deliver the trade directly to customers as much as possible. Also, there are plenty of logistics service providers nearby to store the wares if necessary. But, I want to deliver the fruit directly from the source."
Fruta Rosa will focus primarily on imports from Spain, Greece, and Italy. "Watermelons are a product I want to carry. But I'm interested in specialties, too," Henk explains.
"Like leaf mandarins and other special products. I'll mainly focus on local market clients. They often want produce outside the standard range."
Henk happily calls starting his own business a lifelong dream. "I have nearly 30 years of experience in the fruit and vegetable trade, and it's been on my mind for years. I'm 45, so decided to take the step. I believe there's undoubtedly room for specialists in the market," he concludes.
