"Polish apples getting more expensive by the week"

Polish apples are in demand all over the globe, says Aleksandra Pawlica, responsible for sales of Polish apple exporter Refal: “For us, the new season actually started only recently, in September. We’ve finished harvesting apples and are slowly starting to sell them. We continue commercial relations, but we’re also constantly looking for new companies to cooperate with. This year, we noticed greater demand for Polish apples. They’re becoming more and more recognizable around the world, which makes us very happy. We see interest from countries such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Colombia, India and Bangladesh.”

According to Pawlica, the various markets have their own preference when it comes to varieties. “Refal's main export markets are Spain, France, Greece and Hungary. We also send apples to Egypt, Jordan, India and the United Arab Emirates. We’d love to start cooperation with Colombia. Each market has different needs when it comes to apple varieties. The Far East wants to buy Red Delicious and Gala, possibly Jonaprince and Golden Delicious. Southern destinations, such as Egypt or Jordan, are interested in Golden, Red Delicious, Gala and Idared. However, in addition to Golden and Red Delicious, neighboring countries also willingly buy bicolor apples, such as Champion, Jonagored, Red Prince, Ligol and Idared.”

Pawlica acknowledges that prices are good for them at the moment, but the situation could change in an instant over the course of the season. “Market analysis shows that there are fewer apples in Europe and in the world in general. There’s also a greater demand for apple concentrate, so we think prices will gradually increase. You can already see that apples are getting more and more expensive every week. Of course, we’d like the price and demand growth trends to continue throughout the season. However, based on the experience of recent years, we know that the economic situation in the world is changing very quickly and it is difficult to predict anything. However, we hope that everything will slowly start to calm down and we’ll be able to safely continue our current sales and establish new business relationships.”

“We would like to wish everyone, both buyers and sellers, good luck in the upcoming season and satisfactory prices. Whereas, we invite anyone interested in working with us to contact us,” Pawlica concludes.
