Belarus: The Brest region's role in vegetable production

The Brest region is poised to supply the entire republic with carrots and cabbage, according to Valentin Zaychuk, the First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee. Speaking at a meeting with industry veterans and distinguished agricultural workers, Zaychuk highlighted the positive outcomes in the crop farming sector. He stated that 100,000 tons of vegetables were harvested, half of the national volume. The Luninets district can reportedly feed the entire republic and Moscow with carrots, while the Stolin district can do the same with cabbage.

The country aims to ensure a steady supply of greenhouse vegetables, such as cucumbers and tomatoes, during the off-season.

Zaychuk emphasized that half of the vegetable production in Belarus comes from the Brest region, primarily from private farms.

Zaychuk mentioned plans to modernize greenhouses, acknowledging the associated costs but expressing confidence in eventually achieving self-sufficiency, at least at the regional level.
