Chinese group invests in ginger process capability for European market

In early November, Onedayone’s investment in the Netherlands, the latest air-dry equipment started to be fully operational. This endeavor aims to fortify the company’s capacities, ensuring enhanced ginger processing capabilities to better serve the European market.

In collaboration with De Laat Koudetechniek, a company specializing in energy-saving solutions within refrigeration installations, the equipment employs an efficient air-dry process, utilizing physical means to dry large volumes of ginger while preserving the natural qualities of the product. With other advanced functions, like the automatic palletize functions, the system’s process capacity is up to ten shipping containers per week.

Olaf van Dooren, customer advisor at De Laat, highlighted that the system can intelligently cycle energy between the cooler and the heater, maximizing energy reuse and maintaining a consistent temperature. "We are also proud to use a refrigerant that minimizes environmental impact, aligning with our shared commitment to sustainability."

As a key ginger supplier for Europe, Onedayone Group set its presence in Poeldijk, the Netherlands, in 2017. Over the past six years, the Poeldijk branch has evolved into a comprehensive facility spanning 4,000 square meters, seamlessly managing processing, logistics, and customer service for the European market.

According to Yu Dehai, CEO of Onedayone Group, the decision to invest in Poeldijk aimed at proximity to customers, allowing faster response to market demands. Given that ginger shipments to Europe rely on sea transport with delivery times of up to one month, it exposed ginger quality to many uncertainties. "Moving our processing expertise to the forefront significantly improves product quality delivered to our customers. It's the right move. Our investment is spent on the right thing—to elevate our service standards and responsibly minimize environmental impact," affirmed Dehai.
