New line for delicate fresh produce items introduced

Bulltec srl, in collaboration with Sapore di Romagna, has designed a new system for the filling of punnets with a guaranteed minimum weight suitable for high-value delicate fruits such as apricots, premium plums and kiwifruit. It is also suitable for the new ready-to-eat lines, increasingly demanded by big retail chains and the H&R sector.

"Until a short while ago, only manual lines were used to process these products in order to preserve the physical characteristics of the single fruits, which are sensitive to the rubbing and impacts caused by most of the machines available. Now we can automate this sector too," reports Bulltec owner Ruggero Ricci."

"With this new type of delicate technology, we considerably reduced production costs compared to manual processing by around 40-50%, all the while maintaining the integrity of delicate fruits and reducing waste," observes Cristian Canonici, owner of the Sapore di Romagna cooperative in Forlì."

"The peculiarity of the system is that it was studied to maintain fruits on a single horizontal level, thus avoiding vertical falls that would cause impacts or rubbing," continues Canonici.

"The collaboration with the Sapore di Romagna cooperative was fundamental for the development of the project. The experience of the Canonici brothers enabled us to immediately grasp productive and market needs, which share the objective of preserving delicate fruit during processing, thus minimizing waste. Bulltec did the rest, making available the technology already in use for the processing of minimum guaranteed weight packets," adds Ricci.

The system is already at work in Forlì. "In Bulltec, we found a professional partner that focuses on reaching the objectives, always ready to improve the machine during the tests carried out throughout the summer and Angeleno campaigns. We expect the new machine to increase our capacity with an improved quality standard control and containment of waste, which reduce the turnover and generate waste and are problems that can no longer be overlooked," concluded Canonici.
