The Chilean Kiwi campaign has been "remarkably good in terms of results"

The 2023 Chilean Kiwi export season, which was remarkably good in terms of results, ended a few days ago, stated Carlos Cruzat, the president of the Chilean Kiwi Committee, in an interview with Simfruit.

"There was a smooth placement of the fruit in different parts of the world. In general, we achieved very good results in Europe, the US, and Latin America. Results in China were not that good, but overall it was a very good season."

The market flowed more smoothly, and more comfortably. "When the market is not pressured by prices, it's able to move more fruit more calmly and generally achieve better results. That was an important element. The second thing is that, unlike last year, this year Chile had very good calibers so prices were a little higher, which helped the sector to perform well. A third factor is that Chile produced less volume and New Zealand 30% less. The markets anticipated that there might be a lack of fruit and started ordering kiwis very early to ensure purchases. We had a good season because of these three factors," he stated.

Considering these factors, the president of the Kiwi Committee projects that they'll end the season having exported 128,000 to 130,000 tons of kiwi. “It's a much higher volume than what we initially expected to export. We achieved good calibers, which means the fruit weighed more and we were able to export more kilos. In addition, we achieved very good packing results because the fruit had a very good shape and appearance. Furthermore, the market was very open to the different options. As a result, our packaging performance was better and generated better results. China was the market with the least outstanding performance when compared to the other destinations. However, they receive different products, so we can say that, in general, all the markets had a good performance," Cruzat stated.
