AGAP demands urgent measures to reactivate Peru’s agricultural sector

In a statement made this weekend, the Association of Agricultural Producers Guilds of Peru (AGAP) maintains that the ‘only way out of the recession is by ensuring legal stability, private investment and increasing competitiveness’. The union organization, which brings together producing, processing, marketing, agro-exporting companies and unions in the Peruvian agricultural sector, expresses its concern about ‘the recent recognition by the government that the Peruvian economy is in recession; as well as the lack of action to get out of the economic and social crisis that all Peruvians are facing and particularly the agricultural sector’.

“The serious situation that the country is going through is a consequence of the political, economic and social instability, corruption, populism and public inefficiency, which we have experienced for many years and which, currently, It is up to the government and the Congress of the Republic to correct this situation and lead the destinies of our country with a clear roadmap for economic reactivation and with a high sense of urgency, responsibility and efficiency.”

This statement, expressing AGAP's concern regarding the delicate situation of Peru's agriculture and economy, is added to the claim that they expressed last August regarding the government's insufficient spending to prevent the effects of the El Niño phenomenon, a claim that was not heard and the consequences are currently being suffered in the Peruvian agro-export industry.
