In 2022, the agricultural production in Baja California generated more than $25,728 million pesos, with a production of 2,400,354 tons of different crops. State engineer Juan Manuel Martínez Núñez specified that during the autumn-winter 2021-2022 agricultural cycle, the spring-summer 2022 and the “perennial” crops (those planted throughout the year) in the Mexicali Valley and the coastal area of the state of Baja California, harvested in 153,275 hectares.
The biggest economic benefit was generated by the group of berries, consisting of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries, which generated $8,883 million pesos. The sale of red fruits produced in the state, especially in the municipality of San Quintín and a small amount in Ensenada, participated in 34.52% of the total value of production, which was registered last year. Almost 100 percent of the strawberries originating in Baja California are sold mainly in the markets of the United States.
In the second position is the cultivation of asparagus with a contribution of $3,318 million pesos. Last agricultural year, 3,992 hectares were planted in Baja California, of which 3,504 hectares were harvested. The largest area of asparagus is concentrated in the fields of the Mexicali Valley.
