Expanding its operations in international markets, mainly with FarmFresh conservers to export Brazilian fruits, Termotécnica introduces the Recycle EPS portal.
The RecycleEPS.com portal makes recycling information available on what EPS/Styrofoam* is and its proper disposal. Through its interactive map, the nearest collection points distributed abroad can be found, such as in England, France and Holland.
“We want to bring awareness about the correct disposal and recycling of this material to other markets. Together, with partner recyclers in other countries, we can expand the reverse logistics and EPS recycling process, actually putting the circular economy into practice,” states Albano Schmidt, president of Termotécnica, one of the largest EPS manufacturing companies in Latin America, pioneer and largest recycler of this post-consumer material in Brazil.
Since it began working with fruit exporters, Termotécnica has been part of the Global Packaging Alliance, a global partnership to recycle packaging. In five years, more than 1.2 million FarmFresh conservers have been used to export more than 5,000 tons of premium Brazilian fruits such as mango, grapes, lemon and lime, pitaya, fig, papaya, guava, passion fruit, lychee, atemoya, to countries across Europe, such as France, Spain, Portugal, England, Austria, and also to the Middle East, Russia, China and Canada.
Recycling cases in France and England
Termotécnica is one of the partner suppliers of Fermac Cargo, which became part of the Corporate Program SAF – Sustainable Aviation Fuel – of Air France KLM Martinair Cargo – a milestone that symbolizes the pursuit for more sustainable aviation. With SAF, CO2 has been reduced by approximately 102,070 kg on the three main routes used in exporting Brazilian fruits to Europe through the partnership between Fermac and Air France KLM Martinair Cargo.
A shipment of mangoes from the Brazilian producer Happy Fruits carried out by the European fruit importer and distributor Capexo aboard Air France's “eco-friendly” aircraft was sent to Paris in FarmFresh conservers. Manufactured in EPS, FarmFresh solutions weigh 60% less than corrugated boxes, which can reduce air freight costs by up to 6%, generating significant savings throughout the chain and thus reducing CO2 emissions on the planet.

But what should we do with the conservers after their use? Committed to closing the entire reverse logistics cycle, Termotécnica entered into a partnership with the recycler ECO 2PR, from France, to collect the packaging of these shipments.
