The agricultural sector of the state of Espírito Santo, in southeastern Brazil, generates plenty of jobs: fruit growing represents a significant portion of the Espírito Santo economy. The sector's production had a harvested area of 73,353 hectares with a value of R$1.6 billion in 2021, according to the State Secretariat for Agriculture, Supply, Aquaculture and Fisheries (Seag).
Among the fruit growing products that are most economically relevant to the state, the following stand out: bananas, which account for 30% of the sector's rural income, with a production value of R$487 million; papaya, with a weight of 28% and R$472 million in production. Cocoa appears in third place, with 10% of rural income and a volume of R$162 million in production, according to Seag's Data and Analysis Management.
