El Bierzo's Conference pear harvest will be better than expected

Now that 90% of the fruit has been harvested, the Conference pear harvest in El Bierzo is entering its final stretch. "Based on the volume of pears we've harvested, we'll definitely surpass our harvest estimate,” stated Pablo Linares, technical director of El Bierzo's Guaranteed Brand for Conference Pears. A yield of 11 million kilos was initially forecast, 20% less than the potential due to spring frosts. "The harvest is great. It will be one of the best seasons of the past ten years," Linares stressed.

The good weather conditions and mild temperatures favored the development of the fruit and obtaining larger sizes than usual. "I hope that the market will also notice that the fruit's quality is very good and that this will compensate for the smaller number of pears," he added.
