An offering by the Italian company PND

An automatic line for cutting apples into slices

Fresh fruit consumption is increasing, and apples are a top product in this category. PND is staying abreast of modern trends by launching the Mod. CB8, an automatic line for slicing apples.

Virginia Cascella

We talked to Virginia Cascella, an export manager and industry expert at PND, a company specialized in the manufacturing of fruit processing machinery. “There is more need for machines that process fruit and vegetable references for the fresh-cut sector because of the growing popularity of ready-to-eat fruit. PND has created the CB8 automatic line to meet this demand, which can produce at least 100 apples per minute.”

The CB8 apple cutting machine is designed to automate the process of slicing apples

It includes a tank to collect the fruit, an automatic fruit positioning (which has an efficiency of 99%), and a system that picks up the fruit with a maximum diameter of 110 mm and conveys it to the 8 cutting stations. The final stage of the process involves cutting the apples into wedges using a buffer that pushes the fruit onto the cutter and separates the core on a special conveyer belt.

“It is possible to obtain up to 20 slices and, depending on the customer's preference, an additional treatment can be carried out in a pre-prepared tank containing antioxidant products such as ascorbic acid, citric acid or other commercially available antioxidant products to prevent sudden browning of the slices," said the expert.

User friendly

It provides excellent cutting quality, enables speedy production, saves on labor costs, and is easy to maintain and sanitize, with a user-friendly interface. The plant comes equipped with two conveyors, one for the product and the other for the waste," explains Cascella.

The benefits of using this machine, which is designed for fruits destined for different segments of the fresh produce market, include companies that produce 80-gram bags of apple slices. "We are also proud to see that PND is gaining ground in the United States; the latest installation was in the Boston area," concludes Cascella. “We have a customer who provides pre-cut apple packs to schools. They work from September until early July and currently have three CB8 automatic production lines, and after Easter they asked for a fourth line.”

The machines are not only in great demand in the Americas, but also in parts of Europe, such as England and Poland, according to the company. PND is present all over the world and is always available to carry out any routine or extraordinary maintenance. It offers a ready response to its buyers with processing lines designed according to their needs and requirements.
