Strong start to Moldova's 2023 plum harvest

Moldova, with its rising plum exports, invites EU importers to discover its 2023 plum harvest. "A strong start to the season is evident as 6,500 tons of plums have been exported, with 4,000 tons reaching EU markets like Germany, Austria, and Croatia," says Iurie Fala, CEO of the Fruit Producers and Exporters Association "Moldova Fruct".

"This year, the plum harvest is expected to reach a significant 85,000 tons, marking a return to normalcy after last year's drought-affected yield. Among this yield, 70,000 tons are designated for export. Leading the export lineup are well-regarded varieties like Stanley, President, and Cacanska Ran, known for their unique flavors and quality," says Fala.

"Investments in fruit quality and adherence to international standards have boosted Moldova's plum exports, with over 50% of last year's shipments reaching the EU. Moldova's skill in diversifying plum export markets has caught the interest of consumers across various EU countries, including Germany, Austria, and Croatia. Moldova's producers are prepared to meet rising plum demand, adapting to shifting market preferences and packaging needs. Exporters offer tailored packaging solutions, safeguarding the delicate fruits during transportation," states Fala.

Moldovan plum producers hold certifications like GlobalG.A.P./GRASP and SMETA, reinforcing their dedication to stringent quality and safety standards. These certifications build trust among importers and consumers alike in Moldova's plum growers.

Beyond technicalities, Moldovan plums promise an authentic culinary experience. Nurtured by fertile soil, ample sunlight, and a favorable climate, these plums boast an unmatched sweetness and genuine flavor, reflecting Moldova's agricultural heritage states Fala.
