After a few weeks under pressure, the Paraguayo peach market has recovered. "Now the market conditions are better, because there isn't as much supply, and the little that is currently arriving in the plants is being held back to be sold in the next 15-20 days, so the amount of fruit reaching the market is more limited," said Juan José, of Dulcinca, a Paraguayo peach specialist.

At the beginning of the season in Aragon, there have been some concerns regarding the fruit's sizes, but the mid-season varieties have shown some recovery. "It is worth recalling that in recent years, the Paraguayo supply has been increasingly dominated by larger-sized varieties, and that smaller varieties are becoming obsolete in the market. These varieties are mostly available in June, because those that arrive in July are generally larger," said Juan José.
"This year, we have found ourselves in a stressful situation when it comes to sizes, mostly due to two additional factors: firstly, there has been no water due to the impact of drought, and calibers have undoubtedly fallen shorter. Secondly, the harvest dates have been brought forward by 15 days," he said.
"Also, the thinning was done quickly and poorly. People were very concerned about the threat of frosts. With the thinning, part of the flowers are removed, so if a frost comes and burns the ones that are left on the tree, you will have no production; that's why they waited for so long, and in the end, it was done too late."
"We at Dulcinca have Paraguayo peaches available from early June until the beginning of September. Due to market circumstances, early varieties have always been preferred, but this is now changing. The market demands continuity in the fruit's caliber and flavor, not the varietal spikes that have traditionally been observed in June."
