EU import of fresh fruit now tax-free from Moldova

Signaling a major boost for the trade of high quality fruit between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union (EU), the European Commission voted to renew and extend trade liberalization measures between the country and the bloc. This gives EU importers a good opportunity to buy a diverse range of fruits from Moldova, completely duty-free.

The previous decision to suspend import taxes and increase quotas for Moldovan fruit exports proved highly effective, propelling Moldova into a prominent position in the EU fruit market. With this latest decision, the benefits will not only be extended but amplified, promising a seamless and prosperous business relationship for both EU importers and Moldovan exporters.

The war in Ukraine dealt a significant blow to Moldova's economy, disrupting its traditional export routes. However, in 2022, the EU took a stand and implemented measures to support the Republic of Moldova. The decision to suspend import duties and increase quotas for products such as tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, cherries, plums and grape juice opened new avenues for Moldovan producers, allowing them to access the vast European market.

The positive impact of this decision was tangible. Moldova's exports to the EU increased from 1.8 billion euros in 2021 to 2.6 billion euros in 2022. The resilience and quality of Moldovan fruits have won the hearts of European consumers, leading to continuously increasing demand.

With the recent renewal and expansion of trade measures, Moldova is excellently positioned to enhance its export potential. The suspension of taxes for fruit imports from Moldova will be extended for another year, commencing on July 11. This ensures a duty-free environment for importers interested in accessing products from Moldova.

The substantial size and potential of the EU market, coupled with the minimal costs associated with implementing this decision, make it a win-win situation for all parties involved. Farmers in Moldova can focus on what they do best – growing fruits – while importers can enjoy the benefits of sourcing top quality products at competitive prices.

This development brings an exceptional opportunity for EU importers that should not be overlooked. Moldova has opened its duty-free gateway, offering an extensive range of delicious fruits. It is the perfect time to explore the diverse flavors of Moldovan table grapes, apples, cherries, and plums and unlock the vast potential of fruit exports from Moldova.
