BLE report week 25:

This year's asparagus campaign closed unspectacularly'

The asparagus campaign closed unspectacularly: domestic offers obviously prevailed, but their presence decreased massively, according to BLE. Accommodations had also decreased significantly. In terms of quality, customers had little to complain about; the range continued to consist of appealing large calibers. Quotations developed differently: on the one hand, they dropped because demand was too weak.

On the other hand, however, price increases could be observed, as sales picked up again at the end of the season. In addition, some retailers had already withdrawn from marketing. The range was supplemented by Dutch and Polish white sticks and green offers from Peru, Mexico and Poland. Import valuations also showed the usual fluctuations, always depending on availability and the level of interest.

Apples
Domestic items continued to dominate the scene, but their availability had become somewhat limited. The quality was usually convincing.

Pears
South African and Chilean offerings formed the basis of the range. Supply was rather tight, but usually sufficient to satisfy interest.

Table grapes
Italian Black Magic and Victoria dominated the scene. They were flanked by Red Magic, Supernova and Arra 30 of the same origin. Imports from Egypt, Black Velvet, Autumn Royal as well as Flame Seedless completed the assortment.

Strawberries
Domestic fruits continued to dominate the scene. Availability was very abundant in many places and was able to meet demand without any problems. Nevertheless, prices tended upwards in some areas as a result of increased incoming demands.

Peaches and nectarines
Spanish lots predominated, Italian followed in importance. Although the summer weather boosted sales, availability was too abundant as a result of extensive deliveries.

Apricots
Spanish batches predominated over Italian and French. Flavorful batches from Moldova complemented the action, as did Greek products.

Cherries
Turkish and domestic shipments gained strength, with Italian, Spanish and Greek shipments cutting back. Unloadings from France, Bulgaria and Moldova completed the range of products.

Lemons
In general, supply had expanded somewhat. Demand was met without difficulty.

Bananas
Supply and demand were sufficiently balanced so that traders rarely had cause to modify their previous demands.

Cauliflower
German batches apparently predominated. Occasionally they were flanked by Dutch, Belgian, Polish and Spanish lots, but only to a very limited extent.

Lettuces
In lettuce, domestic and Belgian products could be accessed, Dutch ones appeared only sporadically. For iceberg lettuce, there were domestic, Dutch and Spanish items.

Cucumbers
As usual at this time of the season, the range of snake cucumbers consisted of domestic, Dutch and Belgian products. Availability had expanded and exceeded demand.

Tomatoes
Dutch and Belgian supplies seemed to dominate. Deliveries from Turkey, Poland, Italy and France were only complementary. Interest could not keep up with the increased supply situation.

Sweet peppers
Unloading had intensified overall, but demand remained at the level of the previous week. To accelerate transshipment, distributors often lowered their demands.
