Peaches, nectarines and cherries were among the sweetest deals this week in the US

Peaches, nectarines, and cherries were some of the sweetest deals this week for shoppers looking for freshness on a budget. Cantaloupes, watermelons, and strawberries were popular fruits, along with year-round favorites like avocados, mangos, and grapes. Packages of burger fixings featuring lettuce, onion, and tomatoes were advertised alongside ground beef and buns. Zucchini, yellow squash, asparagus, portobella mushrooms, and corn were promoted for grilled meals. Many flyers featured 4th of July party supplies and fireworks.

Total ad numbers this week were 289,655, a 1% increase from last week's total of 287,305. The total for the same week last year was 1% higher than for this year. The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 164,441 (57% of all ads), onions and potatoes 14,721 (5%), vegetables 104,005 (36%), herbs 792, ornamentals 418, and hemp 5,278. The number of ads for organic produce was 40,087, 14% of total ads.

The following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. Significant increases in price for fruit this week included yellow peaches at 31%, 1 lb. strawberries (conventional at 19%, organic at 11%), nectarines (yellow at 16%, white at 10%), and red seedless grapes at 10%. Significant decreases included red cherries at 20%, avocados at 12%, and white seedless grapes at 11%. There were no significant changes in price for onions and potatoes this week. There were no significant changes in price for vegetables this week.
